Allmänna uppgifter

This course is offered as a single subject course for both Swedish and international students and is compulsary within the business programme Bank and Finance.

Innehåll

• The course will start with an overview of the history of corporate finance.
• How professional investors view risk and returns.
• How managers estimate the cost of capital.
• How corporate strategy and financial polices are connected.
• Managers have in practice an agenda for choosing different financial recourses that is not following the theories in finance.
• When a company is going public.
• Understand how the subject Corporate Government can help to understand why different kind of actions that take place in the capital market

Lärandemål

Knowledge and understanding

On completion of the course, the student should

• show profound knowledge of the fundamental aspects of strategic financial decisions
• understand how management and investors view the business- and financial risks
• understand why different kind of actions take place in the capital market

Skills and abilities

On completion of the course, the student should

• be able to evaluate risk and return
• show an ability to estimate the cost of capital

Judgement and approach

On completion of the course, the student should

• have a perspective of financial history and its development
• be able to evaluate the link between the purpose and the creation of financial tool
• be able to analyse diffrent business ratios

Genomförande

A learning process based on textbook is complemented by contributions from research. The idea is to create a learning environment where the students take a participating responsibility. The teaching is conducted through lectures.

Examination – prov och former

There will be one major written examination on campus (7,5 hp).

The students will receive one of the following grades: Fail, Pass and Pass with Distinction.

Kursutvärdering

The evaluation of the course will be carried out according to stipulated routines for course evaluations at Kristianstad University College.

Övergångsbestämmelser

A student admitted to this course has the right to be examined in accordance with it one (1) year after its final date of validity. Thereafter the student will be examined in accordance with the syllabus that is valid on the examination date.
